It is important to have at least a basic grasp of the rules of a sport before deciding whether to wager on it. Netball is practiced in schools throughout the world. Therefore, this game is ideal for gambling novices who want to make their very first sports bet.
It is a mistake to assume that netball is a niche sport. More than 20 million people play it across 80 different countries. It is most popular within the Commonwealth nations as well as the USA, Zimbabwe and Taiwan. With such an international appeal it makes sense that so many gamblers would choose netball. The game rose to prominence in the 1920s. Therefore fans of netball can vary greatly in age.
During a netball match two teams compete against each other with the aim of scoring the most goals. There are seven players on each team. The game tends to be played on an indoor rectangle shaped court with goal ring poles on both sides. Games generally last one hour, with breaks after every 15 minutes. However, there are some variations that increase the pace.
The ball is passed down the court and thrown into one of the goal holes in order to score points. Each player is assigned a specific position. This defines their role and limits which areas they are permitted to move to. Usually, when a person has the ball they only have three seconds to pass it or attempt to score.
Whilst trying to get the ball into the opponent's goal hoop the team simultaneously has to defend their own. Only two players can stay in attacking/defensive positions. The rest of the team are restricted to an area that contains two thirds of the netball court. However, those in the center can travel anywhere except the shooting circle. Therefore team placement is key. Each player needs to be assigned a role that suits their strengths.
At the start of each quarter the ball is passed from the center of the court. It needs to be touched by a player in each section before a goal is permitted. Whilst contact between rivals can be allowed fouls may be declared if this impedes an opponent.
